About DashDocket
Who is DashDocket for?
Tradies and other workers on wages (PAYG) who buy their own work gear – tools, boots, hi-vis, a phone, tickets and courses – and want their receipts sorted for tax time without the shoebox.
I'm a contractor or sole trader. Is it for me?
Probably not. DashDocket is built around the work expenses employees can claim. If you run your own business (an ABN, GST, invoicing), an accounting app like Xero or MYOB will suit you better.
What does it cost?
Nothing while we're testing. If we add paid plans later, we'll tell you the price and what's included before you're ever charged – and you won't be charged unless you choose a plan.
How do I get an invite?
Fill in the invite form. We'll email you an invite link, usually within a day. Check your junk folder if it doesn't turn up.
Using it
Do I need to download an app?
Not yet. DashDocket runs in your phone's web browser at app.dashdocket.com.au. Tap Share → Add to Home Screen and it gets its own icon, just like an app. iPhone and Android apps are on the way.
How does it read my receipts? How accurate is it?
When you add a photo or PDF, DashDocket uses AI (Claude, by Anthropic) to read the supplier, date, total and each line, and suggests a category. It's very good, but not perfect – faded or crumpled dockets can trip it up. That's why every receipt lands in To check first: you glance over it and tap save.
What if a receipt has work and personal items on it?
DashDocket splits a receipt into its lines, so each item gets its own category. Something that's partly personal – like your phone plan – gets a work-use percentage (25, 50, 75 or 100%), and only the work part counts.
What about tools over $300?
The ATO treats tools over $300 differently – their cost is usually spread over the years they last. DashDocket flags them, suggests a lifespan, and works out each year's share for you.
Can my tax agent use it?
Yes. At the end of the financial year, download the tax summary (PDF or spreadsheet) or all your receipts, and send them to your tax agent. You can also use the summary when doing your own return in myTax.
Do I still need to keep paper receipts?
The ATO accepts clear digital copies of receipts as records – check the ATO's record-keeping rules for the details. While DashDocket is a test version, we suggest keeping the originals too, and downloading your data now and then.
Privacy and your data
Do you share my data with the ATO?
No. DashDocket isn't connected to the ATO, myGov or myTax, and we don't send your receipts or details to any government agency. Your information only reaches the ATO if you, or your tax agent, put it in your tax return yourself.
The one exception is if the law forces us to hand something over – for example a formal legal notice. The ATO has the power to ask any business for records. If that ever happens, we'll only provide what we're legally required to, and we'll tell you unless the law says we can't.
Who can see my receipts?
Only you. Every account is kept completely separate, and we test that no one can see anyone else's receipts. We never look through your receipts – we'd only open your account if you ask us to help with a problem.
Where is my data stored?
On our server in Australia, with nightly backups. Receipt photos are sent to Anthropic in the USA to be read, and we use a few other trusted services to run the app – the Privacy Policy lists them all.
Do you sell my data or use it for ads?
Never. Your information is only used to run DashDocket for you.
Can I get my data out, or delete it?
Any time. In Settings, Download my data gives you a spreadsheet plus every receipt photo. Delete my account removes everything – here's how.
Tax
Is this tax advice?
No. DashDocket keeps your records in order and gives general information, like totals by myTax label. It's not tax advice, and we're not tax agents. What you can claim depends on your situation and the ATO's rules – check with a registered tax agent before you lodge. See our Disclaimer.
Will it get me a bigger refund?
We can't promise that – your refund depends on your income and what you're entitled to claim. What DashDocket does is make sure you don't lose the receipts for things you've bought for work, so nothing gets forgotten at tax time.
What about the $1,000 standard deduction?
From the 2026–27 year, many wage earners can take a standard deduction instead of claiming work expenses. DashDocket's tax summary shows your work expenses next to it, so you can see which looks bigger. Your tax agent can confirm which suits you.
Help
Something's not working. Who do I tell?
Email support@dashdocket.com.au with what you were doing and, if you can, a screenshot. Ideas for improvements are very welcome too.
What happens if DashDocket shuts down?
We'd give you at least 30 days' notice and the chance to download everything first.
