For tradies on wages

Scan receipts.Get it done.

Take a photo of the docket. DashDocket reads it and files it under the right work-expense category, ready for tax time.

Free while it's being tested. Runs on your phone.

The problem

Receipts don't survive the ute.

You buy gear all year. By June half the receipts are faded, lost, or buried in your email.

Faded dockets

Thermal paper on a hot dash. By tax time you can't read it.

Warranty claims

The grinder packs it in at month ten. No receipt, no replacement.

Tax time

A shoebox, a calculator and a Saturday you won't get back.

All over the place

Glovebox, tool bag, inbox, camera roll.

The small stuff

Gloves, blades, bits, the ticket renewal. It adds up, and it's the first to go missing.

Out of pocket

Paid for site gear yourself? Without the receipt, getting it back off the boss is hard work.

Built by a tradie, for tradies

Why I built it

I'm a chippy and site supervisor. My receipts used to live on the dash, in the door pocket and in the bottom of the tool bag.

Come tax time I'd be going through the ute trying to piece the year together. More than once a tool died under warranty and I couldn't claim it, because the receipt was gone.

The apps I tried were set up for business owners and bookkeepers. I just wanted somewhere to put my receipts. So I built DashDocket.

How it works

Snap it. Check it. Done.

Takes about as long as paying for the gear.

DashDocket's Add receipts screen

Snap it

Take a photo at the counter, or upload the PDF from your email. You can do a stack at once.

DashDocket showing a receipt it has read, split into items

Check it

It reads the supplier, date, total and each item, and picks a category. Give it a once-over and save.

DashDocket's tax summary by myTax label

Done

It's filed by ATO work-expense category, with totals by myTax label when you need them.

What it does

Does the boring bit for you.

Reads the receipt

No typing. A long hardware docket gets split into each item.

ATO work-expense categories

Tools, PPE, phone, union fees, tickets and training, sorted the way the tax return asks for them.

Work-use percentage

Phone half work, half personal? Set 25, 50, 75 or 100% and only the work part counts.

Tools over $300

Kept separate, with the cost spread over the years the tool lasts, the way the ATO wants it.

Face ID

Log in with your face or fingerprint. No password to remember on site.

Your copy, any time

Download a spreadsheet and every receipt photo whenever you want.

How I use it

No system needed

Three habits. That's all it takes.

  1. At the counter

Photo of the docket before it goes in the ute.

  2. Friday smoko

Go through anything waiting to be checked. A couple of minutes.

  3. End of the financial year

Download the summary and send it to the tax agent.

Privacy

Your receipts stay yours

  • Only you can see your receipts.
  • Stored in Australia.
  • Never sold, never used for ads.
  • Not connected to the ATO or myGov.
  • Download it all, or delete it all, whenever you like.

Price

Free while it's being tested

A small group of tradies are using it now. If it ever costs money, you'll be told the price first, and nothing is charged unless you sign up for it.

Tester

$0

Everything it does, for as long as testing runs.
